The patient is a 57-year-old overweight Hispanic male who works in construction and smokes. He is being evaluated for high blood pressure after a reading of 170/92 was recorded at a recent local health fair. He uses ibuprofen to manage joint pain and denies experiencing fatigue, daytime sleepiness, interrupted sleep, snoring, apnea, chest pain, swelling, or shortness of breath. His physical exam reveals a blood pressure of 172/94 in the left arm and 178/98 in the right arm, an overweight BMI, and AV nicking on fundoscopic examination. The cardiopulmonary exam is otherwise unremarkable.
